Spring
Four Seasons: Spring
A young face meeting the world for the first time. Green shoots and tendrils curl across the skin, and the eyes are wide, searching and not yet sure what they are looking at. Everything is new: the light, the warmth, the feeling that something is about to begin. This is the face of expectation, tentative, curious and holding its breath at the start of the year.
Four-colour enamels are screen printed and layered across two sheets of glass. The depth between the layers lets the greens and golds glow and shift as the light moves through them. The glass stands on a chunky 30 mm yew base with a wavy edge, so the natural grain and curve of the wood sit beside the printed face.
Details: Four-colour enamel screenprint on two layers of glass, wavy-edged yew base 30 mm thick. Landscape format, glass size 22 x 30 cm (8.7 x 11.8 in), height by width. Handmade by the artist.
